  • Bear Bike Ride Supporting Youth Sports & Activities - 2025

    The Bear Bike ride and fundraiser started in 2020, focusing on granting all youth access to sports and activities. The money raised is donated to the White Bear Lake Area Schools Community Education and Recreation Department, specifically used for families to waive or support youth sports and activity fees. Bear Bike 2025 will take place on Sunday, September 21 The ride will begin in the White Bear Lake High School Parking Lot off Bald Eagle Avenue. 50-mile route begins at 9:00 AM 25-mile route begins at 10:00 AM 10-mile route begins at 11:00 AM For our young riders! A kid and family-fun ride around the high school and Central Middle School campuses will start at 12:00 PM. FOR RIDERS Click Enroll Now under "CS-950 Registration." Each route has a suggested donation of $50 for registration, with additional donation options available to support youth sports and activities. Donations are suggested, but not required to participate in the bike ride. However, to receive a 1/4 zip long-sleeve shirt from the event a rider must donate a minimum of $50. If you order a 1/4 zip you must register by September 13th to be guaranteed your 1/4 zip on the day of the ride. Registrations with a 1/4 zip received after this date will receive their order at a date to be determined after the event. Riders under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.   • Minnesota Biome Hike

    This two-mile guided nature walk will allow you to experience habitats found within the three biomes of our state – the deciduous forest, the coniferous forest and the prairie. A Minnesota Master Naturalist Instructor will guide you through a tamarack bog, oak woodland and restored prairie and describe the plant communities, creatures and ecological processes present in the Linwood School Forest. The history of the Linwood School Forest as well as the current partnerships, collaborations, research and service-learning will be presented. Attendees will learn how to set up a trail camera and how to age trees. There will be multiple opportunities to stop and rest to listen and look for birds as well as other animals living in this forest. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, snacks and binoculars, if you have them.. Please park at the lot on the north end of the forest.     Do you already walk for enjoyment or exercise? Nordic Pole Walking will turn a simple walk into a full body workout without feeling like you are working any harder! This style of walking will increase your heart rate and create resistance to build better bone density while working your upper body as well as your legs. It uses specially designed poles-not to be confused with trekking poles - to enhance your natural walking experience. Burn more calories, improve your posture and gait. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Poles provided by the instructor.
  • Oak Savanna Hike at Fish Lake Nature Trail

    The Fish Lake Nature Trail winds through several distinct ecosystems along its one path. During this hike hikers will be led through a sand prairie before encountering Fish Lake. Then, the hike will focus on the bur oak savanna —one of Minnesota’s rarest wildlife habitats. We will discuss and observe red-headed woodpeckers that are common but restricted to this area, other typical flora and fauna, and the role of bison and other management techniques to maintain this highly endangered plant community. There will be multiple opportunities to stop and listen and look for birds as well as other animals or their signs like nests and tracks. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, snacks and binoculars, if you have them. Please park at the lot on the north end of the forest.
