History: The Commanders-Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant

Enrichment Adult / Home -
AE 2526 Fall

Both men graduated from West Point; but both regretted it. Lee is seen as the elegant gentleman, the Cavalier. Grant is often portrayed as the cigar chomping, hard drinking fighter. Actually these men were very much alike, though their backgrounds were vastly different. Learn how each man differed from the myth, and how each excelled in doing his duty for his country during the cataclysm of the Civil War.

Kathleen Simmer

Kathy Simmer taught in the St. Paul Public Schools and was very interested in historical research. Upon retirement she began teaching classes on American history topics in several suburbs and for various organizations. She likes to include the details that are often left out of the history books.

Kathy's portion of the class fee is donated to the Alzheimer's Association or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research.  Thank you.
