  • Blow Your Own Bud Vase

    The bud vase is a great in-between class before taking the more advanced floral vase class. This allows students to become fluid by using heat, gravity, and optic molds to create different shapes and textures for your vessel. While using skills learned in prior classes, this piece will allow students to experience working on shapes that require more glass and alternative forms of shaping. This class will also provide a glimpse of the skills that are needed to create more sophisticated vessels and sculptures. Wear closed toe shoes, cotton clothing you can get dirty, and dress in layers as the studio can get quite warm. Please note: You will need to return at a later date to pick up your finished work. Students under 18 must have a parent present to sign waiver.

    If you’ve never tried glassblowing before, it can be intimidating at first. After all, you’ll be dealing with large furnaces with temperatures that reach over 2000 degrees! We’ve designed this class with the beginner in mind so that anyone can experience the art for themselves, no matter their skill level. A paperweight is a perfect project for first-timers to try out glassblowing. Under the guidance of an instructor, students will experience how glass is manipulated and formed into a simple shape. Creating a glass paperweight teaches the fundamentals of gathering, coloring, shaping and transferring the piece off of the blowpipe. Students ages 12-15 must register with an adult. All student under 18 must have a parent present to sign waiver.

    Come and have an amazing time creating wonderful fields of flowers! See just how easy it is to blend colors and a achieve 3 dimensional look using a palette knife. We’ll be painting on 2 square canvases to create 2 similar or different (it’s your choice) fields of flowers. You’ll be able to display each painting on their own or together as a focal point for a wall. No experience necessary; all supplies included.

    In two fun evenings, using cut glass, create a beautiful photo frame to highlight your special photos, or give it as a unique gift. Sign ideas include welcome, house numbers, state of MN, flowers, last name, homage to a sports team. Patterns are also available. The first night is working on your project and the second night is grout and learning about glass cutting & other mosaic projects. Please bring in an old towel to class.   • Woodworking - Custom Cutting/Charcuterie Board

    In this 2 session class you will make your own wooden cutting board from assorted hardwoods. All materials are provided and no prior experience is needed. Participants will create and layout a design (12"x 18" maximum size), glue up their components, and learn how to properly use some of the more common shop tools (like the miter saw, band saw, jointer and planer) to make your own unique cutting board. After your components dry - we'll plane, cut, and sand your finished cutting board in the second session. Custom features can then be added using the bandsaw and router. Perfect for holiday gift-giving or your Thanksgiving table! This class will take place at Minnesota Tool Library.
